BMW
motorcycles
|
 |
| BMW motorcycles
are a German company with a long history of making reliable, quality motorbikes.
The GS is the benchmark for Adventure Touring. The R100GS was one of the
most popular round the world motorcycles. |

BMW motorcycle parts
& servicing:
|
|
The paralever
GS's are not in production, but BMW & OEM parts are available
at service centers & motorcycle dealers, but secondhand spares
are getting scarce. The original BMW F650 is now no longer
produced, however parts are readily available.

 |
|
There are
plenty of aftermarket motorcycle accessories for BMW especially
the GS (see Touratech); whilst the boxer airhead twin engine has
a huge following & plenty of mechanical, repair & servicing
information.
However, parts
& servicing from BMW dealers
is expensive, fortunately there are a few independant BMW parts
suppliers such as MotorWorks & James Sherlock.
Haynes manuals
are available for all these BMW motorcycles & the boxer engine.
There is a Clymer manual for the GS too.

| BMW motorcycle
reliability & build quality |
 |
| Reliability &
build quality is very good on all these BMW motorcycles, however, the
F650 motorbike is perhaps less durable, as the earlier bikes were made
in Italy. However, I had a 1994 F650 with 40k on the clock, that had been
left outside & it was still in excellent condition. The Telelever
range has incredible build quality. All these bikes have been taken round
the world, & choice is usually based on inside leg measurement &
whether a pillion is going. |
