CAGIVA motorcycles

CAGIVA motorcycles are an Italian company. The Cagiva Elefant motorbike was a great handling big trail bike, but is well known for electrical & sometimes mechanical problems. The newer Cagivas seem more reliable, with the Cagiva Navigator using a Suzuki engine, whilst the Cagiva Gran Canyon retains a Ducati engine.

Cagiva Parts & Servicing:

Cagiva have stopped production of their big trailies, & you would need to check on the availability of parts at service centers & motorcycle dealers. Some Elefant parts are unavailable & OEM parts & secondhand spares may not be common.

No haynes manual is available, so Cagiva workshop manuals if available & the engine manual from Ducati & Suzuki.

Cagiva motorcycle accessories (like luggage) are not as common as other models. No-one make a luggage fitting kit for the Elefant anymore, however, you could get one engineered.

The Cagiva Elefant is a traillie classic, & handles very well, along with a low seat height, makes it a great all rounder, but they suffer from some electrical problems.

Cagiva Motorcycles Build Quality

Buy a Cagiva motorcycles & you will have fun, but you may need to be philisophical about irritating problems. Italian motorcycles are both blessed & cursed simultaneously. I am willing to hold judgement on these Cagiva motorcycles until I get more info & the 2 newer motorbikes get older. The Elefants are still popular & going strong 12 years after production. A friend owned a 750 Elefant, & it seemed pretty good. Although the build finish was lower than a BMW or Honda motorcycle. Electrics are a definate issue on the Elefant, & keep the engine serviced by a Ducati specialist such as Baines Racing at Silverstone, UK.
